TIG WIRED
Some Things Aren't Meant To Last
Last time I saw you
I hardly recognized your face,
You stayed deep in the shadows like a woman
Who was lost in time and space
And though we did not talk
it was clear to me
If you could you would lay my soul to waste
You told me long ago you thought you loved me
And then you quickly disappeared.
I heard you hooked into some voodoo down in Haiti
It meant you might not make it back this way for years
So I packed up my heart
I drained my last glass
Realized some things are never meant to pass
Where do you run to
When the night takes back the day
You taught me this trade like a pro on parade
You dealt me the pain that put ice in my veins
Now you’ve come back,
Expecting nothings changed…
Another day, another job,
just another plane I gotta ride
There’ll be another hall
from some other port of call
Another deal I gotta fly
But I’m feelin’ your resistance
And some other world persistence
That keeps my back against the wall
Now I'm not saying that I’m always straight up
And I have no issues working outside the lines
But seven years of burnin’
for the numbers we’ve been turnin’
Got me seven years to get you off my mind
I closed down my heart moved away from my past
Some things are never meant to last
Where do you run to?
When the night takes back the day
You taught me this trade,
like a pro on parade
You dealt me the pain
that put ice in my veins
Now you come back
expecting nothings changed
Too many conflicts
Too many risks that I have had to take
Too many heartaches
Too many promises that I have had to break
Oh, but seven years of hatin’
This man I've been creatin’
Gave me seven years to learn from my mistakes
Where do you run to,
when the night reclaims the day
Are there voices in your head?
From the thoughts of my new rev
Does my ghost of yesterday talk to you this way?
Keep moving fast some things were never meant to last
